Meet the Team Behind PrepMeKits

Karen Berner is founder and CEO of PrepMeKits.  Her vision for creating the company is based on her desire to ensure every family has what it needs for those essential first 72 hours after an emergency. While raising her family, Berner held multiple community leadership positions, including STEM Board chair for Los Altos High School, as well as PTA president and scout troop leader. Currently, Berner serves as Chair of the World Community Service Committee for Los Altos Rotary Club. She has received training in the NOLS Wilderness Medicine program, as well as in several community emergency preparedness programs such as the Block Action Team (BAT) program in Los Altos, CA and the CERT programs in Sunnyvale and Woodside, CA.

Alli Steinmetz currently serves as chief operating officer at PrepMeKits. Steinmetz oversees and directs operations, technology and supply chain needs for the company. She is responsible for designing and developing PrepMeKits’s e-commerce site, as well as building out a robust Enterprise Resource Platform to provide seamless integration of complex inventory management. Prior to her role at PrepMeKits, Steinmetz worked as a software engineer at Apple, Inc. in their Cloud Infrastructure division developing reliable tooling for key Apple infrastructure. She received her software engineering degree at Penn State Behrend.

Advisory Board

Karen Mendoza serves as the chief business development officer at Legendary Shift LLC, a leader in the global video games industry specializing in human connectivity. Mendoza manages a portfolio of subsidiaries including GameTruck Licensing, Bravous Esports, and Connected Affinity. Prior to joining Legendary Shift, Mendoza spent 15 years at Nintendo of America, Inc. managing field retail operations, and overseeing retail technology initiatives and support for 150 field sales employees. In her advisory role at PrepMeKits, Mendoza provides corporate strategy initiatives for the company’s sales and marketing efforts.

Stephanie Gray is a senior manager of internal audit at a nonprofit research institute headquartered in Menlo Park, California. Gray provides risk assessment, compliance, governance, and assurance services to innovative startup organizations in industries ranging from aerospace and defense, information technology, and financial services. Her background and certifications in CISA (Certified Information System Auditor), CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), CPA (Certified Public Accountant), and MBA provide an in-depth perspective on a wide array of risk management threats. In her current role, Gray helps lead the corporate internal audit department to support the staff to achieve its business objectives and meet compliance requirements. She provides independent assurance, continuous process improvement, and diverse consulting services. In addition, she is the Supervisory Committee Chairperson for the SRI Federal Credit Union. Before this, she worked as an integrated project manager at Raytheon Technologies. As risk management and assurance professional, Gray also serves on the Advisory Board of PrepMeKits where she provides corporate counsel on best practices, processes, and risk assessment guidance on governance for the company.

Hillary Andrews is a senior director of sales and operations at Cisco Systems, the multinational corporation producing Silicon Valley’s notable networking, cloud and security solutions. With more than two decades of experience, Andrews provides strategic direction on corporate processes, forecasting and management at the company. Andrews’ leadership experience spans financial management, business intelligence, operations, strategy and planning. In addition, she is a co-founder of MPower Escape Room, an award-winning entertainment company based in Morgan Hill, Calif. As a PrepMeKits Advisory Board member, Andrews provides critical guidance in operations, sales, and general logistics for the company.
