The Great ShakeOut 2021

The Great ShakeOut 2021

Mark your calendars for Thursday, October 21st for a worldwide Earthquake Drill –  the Great ShakeOut! Since 2008, International ShakeOut Day has been held on the third Thursday of October. While COVID-19 has brought many uncertainties and challenges, one thing's for sure: #ShakeOut is still happening this year! As of October 10th, 23,466,320 participants are registered to take part, with 6,365,415 in California alone.

ShakeOut is our chance to practice together how to protect ourselves, and for everyone to become prepared. Earthquakes may happen anywhere you work, live, or travel; and you may only have seconds to protect yourself before strong shaking knocks you down or drops something on you. When the adrenaline kicks in, you may not act safely if you haven’t practiced the “Drop, Cover, Hold On” drill before that moment.  Don’t wait until the shaking – now is the time to practice earthquake safety with your family and community.

As always, you can hold your ShakeOut drill when and where you want. You can choose another date or several dates, and include people in multiple locations (home, work, or school), in-person or through video conferencing. Everyone is welcome to participate – individuals, families, businesses, schools, government agencies and organizations. Invite everyone who matters to you to register and ShakeOut. Help us to save lives and prevent disasters from becoming catastrophes.
